- Tow truck driver said in N the car would roll about 6' and then hang up. Was able to drive in, could hear metallic type noises, when reversing and turning there was a bind but it moved past and rolled in OK. Put on lift for further inspection, rear differential leaking fluid. All 4 wheels spin and no odd noises found, all cv axles/joints look ok. Rear diff looks like it was leaking. Ran car on lift and scoped bearings/drivetrain, found rear diff is VERY loud. Removed drain plug and no fluid came out, magnet is covered in pastey metallic debris. Rear differential was low or empty and destroyed rear differential. Recommend new rear differential.
- Removed differential and installed new oem unit. After installation torqued all hardware to spec. Removed fill plug and topped up fluid till fluid ran out of fill hole per spec using OEM supplied fluid. Test drove to verify no weird noises from rear end, no issues found during test drive Rear shocks are leaking, rear brakes have about 4mm left, rotors are very rusted as is most undercarriage components. Tires are in good shape, set tire pressures after torquing rear wheels. Installed 1 hub cap – only 1 was present o/a
