No misfires when pulling into shop cold. Found faults: 140010 – combustion misfires, several cylinders 140210 – combustion misfire cylinder #2, detected 140001 – misfire, several cylinders, fuel injection is cut 140201 – misfire, cylinder #2, fuel injection is cut Inspected spark plugs – didn't notice anything abnormal. Swapped #2 and #4 ignition coils and cleared faults – misfire returned to cylinder #2. Swapped spark plugs from #2 to #4 and cleared faults – misfire followed spark plug to cylinder #4. Recommend replacing spark plugs *Brake fluid and oil service both due*
Replaced spark plugs and cleared faults. Misfires haven't returned. Road tested after warming up and confirmed no more misfires under load

DME: 216104 MSA monitorin: start delay EGS (electronic transmission management): 420571 ETC Voltage supply: outside of specified range (below 6.5v) DSC: Undervoltage in vehicle Many other intermittent faults related to vehicle voltage. Tested battery – battery tested at 11.89v and only 175CCA after running engine – battery is very low and should be replaced prior to any further troubleshooting
Removed old battery and installed replacement, used scan tool to reset battery management and register new battery. No faults or warnings after reset

Completed engine oil and filter change. Replaced the drain plug gasket and torqued the plug. Topped up washer fluid and reset service reminder. No fluid leaks or any other issues found at this time. The tires are at 9/32nds all the way around. The front brakes are at 7mm, the rear brakes are at 5mm. Checked oil level to make sure it was right at the max after change.

Pulled the vehicle in and confirmed that the upper radiator hose did blow off. Recommend replacing the upper and lower radiator hoses. Also the smaller plastic cooling hoses on the front, recommend doing a thermostat and water pump while in there at this age. The oil filter housing is leaking. The valve cover is leaking. The engine oil pan is leaking. Printed vehicle report – 24 faults stored, gave report to customer. Dash warning says 16k overdue oil service and 4 years overdue on brake fluid. Hose needs to be replaced, but most cooling hoses on vehicle are showing aging, recommend full cooling system replacement. Water pump faults indicate potential failure soon, recommend replacement asap. Oil leaks are needed but shouldn't prevent car from driving, serp belt is not soaked at this time, recommend oil leak repairs as soon as possible. Customer requested coolant hoses (upper rad and hose to exp tank) get replaced and see if he can drive it home. No other repairs approved at this time.
Replaced upper radiator hose and hose to expansion tank. Filled with OEM BMW coolant and bled system. Water pump was working at time of bleed procedure. Cleared faults and test drove, did not overheat on short test drive.

Heard the light clunk/tapping sound from front right of vehicle. Test drove to see if heat changed it or any road conditions. Turning the steering wheel left and right while stationary also makes the noise. Bumpy roads it can be heard often and consistently. Heat had no effect. Lifted the vehicle up and found that the sway bar end links have been replaced with not factory parts and they are leaking. Recommend starting there. Replaced both front sway bar end links. Test drove, no longer hear the clunk noise.

Removed the old water pump and replaced it with the new part, also replaced the water pump bolts and torqued them. Vacuum tested the coolant system for leaks and it passed. Also vacuum filled the system with coolant and completed factory bleed procedure. Test drove the vehicle afterwards to ensure the coolant system got all the way up to temp and the thermostat opened up like it should. Vehicle operated properly, checked coolant level when I got back, added a splash to it and its now good to go.
Replaced the thermostat and completed all the necessary operations to ensure successful replacement. Check water pump story for more details.

Pressure tested charge cooling system and no leaks found. Pressure tested main cooling system and found large leak of front of engine. Looks to be coming from radiator coolant hose or aux hose – visibility is poor, disassembly required to pinpoint leak. Removed needed components to access leak area, removed several coolant hoses to find, found small aux water pump on front of engine has hole in it. Recommend new pump and retest system after installation.
Completed the install of the auxiliary water pump after leak was found. Re-installed all proper parts and bled the coolant system. test drove afterwards to make sure there were no more leaks and the coolant was at the proper level. Good to go.
