Replaced timing chain, tensioner, guides, cam adjusters, vibration damper, crank seal, acc belt, belt tensioner, coolant pump roller, and engine oil/filter. During road test oil pressure warning came on, checked that oil was at correct level, heard no clattering noise associated with low pressure. Pulled back into shop and unplugged oil control solenoid and cleared faults. Unplugging solenoid causes full oil flow from pump. During second road test with solenoid unplugged no warnings or faults returned. Suspect this has been the ongoing issue and likely caused cam adjusters to fail. Used a gallon BMW/Mini coolant, oil filter, and 4.2L 5w30 synthetic
Replaced coolant pump during timing chain replacement.
Replaced thermostat.
Replaced oil pressure control solenoid, oil/filter, and oil pan. Solenoid is located on engine oil pump requiring exhaust, driveshaft, cv shaft, transfer case, and oil pan removal. Cleared faults And performed VANOS system test via scan tool – system operating as designed at this time. Road tested vehicle – faults/oil warning did not return. When draining oil, noticed fair amount of metallic particles, replaced with fresh oil. Sending oil sample out to be inspected.

Changed engine oil and filter, reset service reminder. Checked/set tire pressures and reset TPMS- one tire was at 48psi one tire was at 36 – set all 4 to 35psi. Front tires are showing wear, should rotate tires soon. Topped up washer fluid. Slight oil leak at PCV and oil cap – keep an eye on it, PCV is a common failure and may be pushing excess pressure. No other signs of an issue aside from very slight sign of oil leaking at this time.

Removed the old water pump and replaced it with the new part, also replaced the water pump bolts and torqued them. Vacuum tested the coolant system for leaks and it passed. Also vacuum filled the system with coolant and completed factory bleed procedure. Test drove the vehicle afterwards to ensure the coolant system got all the way up to temp and the thermostat opened up like it should. Vehicle operated properly, checked coolant level when I got back, added a splash to it and its now good to go.
Replaced the thermostat and completed all the necessary operations to ensure successful replacement. Check water pump story for more details.

Replaced rear diff gear oil, transfer case oil, and automatic transmission fluid. Also replaced engine and cabin air filters. When replacing cabin air filter – found rodent nest in filter cavity.
Front left inner pad is metal on metal, outer pads are all very thin also. Rear rotors are rusty and pad is not making contact with full rotor surface. Recommend pads and rotors, front and rear. Calipers are very rusty, bleeders have not moved in a long time and are so corroded movement is unlikely. If brake pedal is not improved with pads/rotors, recommend replacing all 4 calipers due to rust/age.
Replaced front and rear brake pads and rotors. Cleaned and lubed caliper slides. Rear calipers slides were seized, Could not Flush brake system as all 4 bleeders are rusty and will break. Road tested vehicle to bed-in brakes. Noticed very loud rumbling noise while driving – put vehicle back on lift and found front wheel bearings very loud, recommend replacing. Right Rear air spring looses pressure over night, may have a slight leak. **Vehicle pulls to the right, steering wheel to the left**

Rotated tires front to back and set tire pressures, reset tpms system. 3 tires are nearing wear bars but are in good condition at this time. Brakes are in great condition. No fluid leaks visible, underside of vehicle is in very good shape. No further services recommended at this time. CEL was on o/a – scanned faults and printed full report for customer. Faults stored are all items that should be looked at by dealer, recommend having transmission/transfer case fluid changed during that visit.
Drained and refilled front and rear differentials, fluid in front diff was fairly clean looking but smelled bad, rear was similar. Next fluid change recommended in 60k

Replaced upper ball joints – both sides Noticed RF shock is blown/leaking.
Replaced rear prop-shaft, torqued to spec. Re-adjusted rear brake shoes. Road tested vehicle – noticed steering wheel shimmy when cruising, rotated tires front-to-rear, shimmy mostly gone. Recommend having all 4 wheels balanced with a RoadForce machine. Recommend replacing front and rear shocks sooner than later.

PS front outer pad is metal on metal, DS has about 4mm of pad left. Brake calipers and rotors are VERY rusty. Recommend new calipers, pads and rotors on front and brake fluid flush for complete system.
Replaced both front calipers and both sides pads and rotors. Bled brake system and performed test drive. Brakes are smooth and firm, no noises present.
